COCs Beef Up Films for Packaging
TOPAS cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs) create new opportunities in film packaging due to strong compatibility with polyolefins, strong optics, excellent moisture barrier, high stiffness, heat resistance, and strength. They can be blended with other polyolefins or serve as a discrete layer in coextruded multilayer film, creating new films for blister packaging, shrink sleeves and labels, twist films, easy-tear packages, or high-barrier metallized films.
In shrink film, TOPAS COCs deliver high shrink, excellent optics, low shrink force, high shrink speeds, high stiffness, and excellent tear strength. They significantly enhance the stiffness of polyolefin film and greatly improve the performance of PE bags, stand-up pouches, and other packaging. COCs can be combined with polyethylene to make films that compete favorably with thicker, more complex and expensive structures. Multilayer PET bottles with a COC barrier layer provide protection for moisture- and oxygen-sensitive products in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, and cosmetics industries.
